How Does the Smart Splitter Work?

The Smart Splitter transforms a single 240V input into two 240V outputs. Thanks to its built-in auto-switching system, only one outlet is energized at a time, ensuring safe operation. This allows you to run multiple high-demand devices—like electric dryers, EV chargers, or even water heaters—through a single socket, saving homeowners thousands in potential wiring upgrades.

The device works by constantly monitoring the combined current from both outlets. If the total load rises above the circuit breaker’s limit, the Secondary outlet is shut off automatically. Once the Primary outlet finishes its task and the overall draw falls back below the breaker threshold, power is restored to the Secondary side. To maintain connectivity, the Primary outlet always provides a small standby current, keeping displays and smart functions like WiFi active.

Certified by UL, the Smart Splitter has undergone rigorous safety testing, giving you confidence that both performance and protection are guaranteed. It is also fully automatic—no switches, no extra steps—just plug and play.

Use Case 1:Appliance and EV Charger.
Imagine using your dryer outlet to also charge your EV. The dryer connects to the Primary outlet, while the EV charger goes to the Secondary. Whenever you start laundry, the Smart Splitter automatically pauses EV charging, powers the dryer, and then resumes charging once the cycle is complete. For this type of setup, households would choose a NEMA 10-30 or NEMA 14-30 Smart Splitter, capable of delivering up to 24 amps (5.7 kW).

Use Case #2:Two EV Chargers.
When two EV chargers are connected, the Primary EV charges at full power. Once it’s done, the Smart Splitter automatically switches over to the Secondary EV, allowing both vehicles to be charged one after the other without any manual intervention.
